Brooklyn, NY – A construction worker was fatally struck by falling material at a work site in Bedford-Stuyvesant, at Myrtle and Marcy Avenues in the city.
Police say 44-year-old Over Paredes, of Newark, a day laborer, was hit by the falling object while work was ongoing at the site. He was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull where he succumbed to his injuries.
Paredes’ brother and two of his sons were working on the site as well.
Meanwhile, according to a report by Spectrum News NY1, the Paredes family is calling for a comprehensive investigation, not just in Brooklyn but for construction sites across the city, and into safety standards as well.
Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams, says the accident was due to wind knocking over the wall, as well as the manual forklift that had hoisted it up.
