W.Va. Chemical Spill Company Picks New Contractor for Cleanup

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  – The bankrupt company behind a chemical spill last year has picked another contractor to clean its contaminated site.

Freedom Industries chief restructuring officer Mark Welch said Monday the company picked CORE Environmental Services Inc. of Allison Park, Pennsylvania.

CORE would be Freedom’s third clean-up contractor. A leaky Freedom tank in Charleston spurred a tap-water ban for 300,000 people for days in January 2014.

Earlier this month, the EPA said the agency and Freedom couldn’t reach terms with contractor ARCADIS and parted ways.

Freedom previously fired contractor Civil & Environmental Consultants.
