The US Department of Homeland Security defines an active shooter as “an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.”

Recent active shooter incidents have underscored the need for a coordinated response by law enforcement and others to save lives. Essentially, you have 3 options – to RUN, HIDE, and FIGHT.

The SUN News team went to Moorpark College, Moorpark, CA to cover an active shooter response training exercise by the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD).
