SAN BERNARDINO, CA – A leak of hazardous material burned a hole through the bottom of a truck, causing authorities to shut down a portion of Locust avenue for 8 hours, Wednesday.

A Hazmat crew from the Rialto Police Department was called out after what was described as a “self-heating inorganic material” ignited in the transportation truck.

The driver of the truck noticed that the granular material he was hauling had leaked out of its container.

Crews worked to safely unload the remaining material from the truck and clean the burnt granules from the roadway, according to a Rialto Police statement.

Two businesses in the area had to be evacuated, and no one was injured during the incident, authorities said.
