Refugio State Beach, CA – Security hired by Plains All-American Pipeline handed over the guard gate at Refugio State Beach to park rangers at 8am (PST) today. Campers with reservations will have access to the facility from noon.
Inside the park, crews put the finishing touches on campgrounds and basketball courts. Visitors will notice a newly paved parking lot and bathrooms and a snack bar with fresh paint.
Oil spill clean-up crews are now focused on cleaning the cliffs to the north where the oil spilled into the ocean almost two months ago.
Natural seeps in the area create tarballs throughout the year. Authorities are encouraging beach-goers to report unusual concentrations of tarballs to the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802.
