NE Dollar Store to Pay $$ for Safety Violations

OMAHA, NE ‒ The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited national discount retailer Family Dollar Store for safety violations after the company allowed equipment to block an exit route at an Omaha, Nebraska, store.

OSHA proposed penalties of $302,147.

OSHA issued four repeat and two serious safety citations after a December 2018 inspection.

Violations include:

  • The store failed to secure compressed gas cylinders;
  • Did not follow manufacturer’s instructions when using electrical apparatus;
  • Emergency exit doors should remain unlocked; and
  • Failed to cover overhead lights.

OSHA Area Director, Jeff Funke said ” In an emergency, store employees and customers must be able to leave quickly without having to navigate through obstructed exit routes”, adding, ” these safety hazards need to be corrected to save lives.”
