PHOENIX, AZ – A major clean-up is underway at a liquid-recycling plant in south Phoenix following multiple explosions late last week.
Firefighters had reported that a three-alarm blaze near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road had sparked several explosions and that some small barrels stored there had turned into projectiles.
About 100 people were evacuated from the immediate area.
The fire scorched two businesses with the same owner, Solvent Recy-Clean and SRC Oil and Fuel, which recycles oil, gasoline, jet fuel and other materials.
Phoenix Fire told SUN News that they are working with the EPA to determine what needs to be done with the toxic water that is streaming in storm drains blocked off by sand bags.
A witness described the scene as a “war zone”.
