FL Worker Dies Conducting Safety Check on a Thrill Ride

Described as the “world’s tallest swing ride” standing at 450 feet, Orlando, FL’s “Star Flyer” proved deadly for a 21-year-old worker who fell 200 feet Monday morning while conducting a daily safety check on the ride.

According to ClickOrlando.com, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the man was climbing the tower when he fell to the bottom platform.

Orange County Fire Rescue said the worker was about halfway up the 450-foot ride when he fell onto the platform.

Rescue climbers removed the man and took him to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

John Stein, told FOX 35 that the ride does undergo maintenance and a safety inspection daily. This was underway when the incident occurred.

Responders also helped another worker down, although that worker was not injured, according to authorities.

The attraction on International Drive will be closed while the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigate the man’s death.
