Los Angeles, CA – A worker is in a serious condition in the hospital after being impaled by rebar Tuesday at a downtown city construction site.
Firefighters responded about 3:05 p.m. to the multi-story construction site at 825 S. Hill St., where the 27-year-old worker was impaled by at least two pieces of inch-thick rebar, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters cut the rebar and used a construction crane and rescue basket to lower the critically injured man, still impaled, 20 feet to the street so he could be taken to a hospital.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was knocked onto the rebar when something fell onto him.
Cal/OSHA is investigating the incident.
