San Diego, CA — One worker was killed and four other people were hurt in a University of San Diego (UCSD) construction accident Thursday morning.
FOX 5 reports the accident happened at a worksite for new UCSD housing and classrooms on Muir Lane, near Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, around 8:30 a.m. Two large sections of collapsed rebar could be seen at the site.
One person suffered a serious head injury and four others were hurt when equipment fell on workers, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. At least two people were taken to the hospital and one person died from their injuries, officials said.
The project, the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood, is meant to include six new buildings for student housing, classrooms, lecture halls, shops, dining options, and underground parking.
The contractor, Clark Construction Group, has started a full investigation and is cooperating with the proper authorities, including Cal/OSHA.
