Saginaw, MI – One employee was killed and one injured in a gas explosion, Tuesday, at Hi-Tech Steel Treating on Roberts street in the city.
The Saginaw Fire Department says the two men were trying to repair a furnace.
According to authorities, the victims were working on a door of the furnace to try to find a leak, and the door itself seemed to explode. “At this point, it’s preliminary, and it’s hard to tell exactly what caused the explosion,” said Tom Raines, a battalion chief with the Saginaw Fire Department. “There was no fire. The explosion seemed to be maybe the air pressure.”
Raines says it was the blast that injured the men.
The injured man is at Covenant HealthCare. Raines believes he has severe injuries, but is stable.
The fire department says MIOSHA will investigate this workplace accident.
