Scaffolding Fall

Campustown, IA – A second person who fell three stories from scaffolding while working on a new building in Campustown has died, Ames police said Saturday.

Rescue workers responded to the new six-story apartment complex at Lincoln Way and Lynn Avenue late Friday afternoon.

According to the Ames Tribune, one of the workers was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Ames Deputy Fire Chief Richard Higgins said on Friday that multiple construction companies were working on the site and it wasn’t immediately known which company the workers were with. A supervisor overseeing the construction was notified, as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which investigates work site deaths.

The redeveloped building where the accident happened is located at the former location of the Campus Book Store, and is now known as the Foundry.
