Columbus, OH – OSHA inspectors are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a worker who was crushed by granite slabs at Unique Stone Concepts on Tues, Oct 3.
Police said 55-year old Robert Schofield, was working in the rear of the property when a safety pole holding back the massive stone slabs failed, releasing the granite onto him. Officers on scene said other workers found Schofield and they had to use a crane to get him out.
He was rushed to Mount Carmel West Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died a short time later.
The company, which imports and distributes stone slabs for kitchen and bathroom countertops, has not released a statement. Unique Stone Concepts has no prior OSHA citations.
