AMHERST, NY – A National Fuel technician investigating a report of an odor of natural gas in an Amherst home on Saturday afternoon found what appeared to be potentially hazardous chemicals in an apartment above a detached garage.
The residence is located on LeBrun Circle, a well-to-do neighborhood on the Buffalo border.
Brighton Hazmat Teams investigated further. The decision was made to bring in the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT).
Amherst Police say the potential hazard was remediated by the CCSERT team with the help of the Clandestine Lab Enforcement Team of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
There were no injuries reported and neighbors were not at any risk.
Police have not said what chemicals were found, or who may have been keeping them there. There is no word on whether any arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
