Michigan Man Dies in Construction Accident


NEW TOWN, MI – A 65-year-old Harrisville, Michigan, man was killed at a New Town construction site Monday afternoon when he became trapped under a loader.

William Makela was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department.

Emergency responders arrived at the work site, south of New Town, after being called at 2:26 p.m.

By the time workers and responders extracted the man, he was dead, according to the department.

Witnesses said gravel slid off of a pile and knocked the man off of his feet before burying him underneath the loader.

Makela’s body has been sent to the North Dakota State Forensic Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
