AVON, OH – A 36-year construction worker was killed after he was struck by a dump truck he was directing, backing into a construction zone.

Joseph R. Kelly, a resident of Avon, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the truck and the victim were both employed by KMU Trucking Inc.

The company was doing work at Jaycox Road, just north of Middleton Avenue to widen and resurface Jaycox Road from Detroit to Chester, including improvements to the intersection of Middleton Avenue and Jaycox when the accident occurred.

Police would not say whether any charges would be issued, but there is an open investigation into the accident.
