NORFOLK, MA – Firefighters and a hazmat team responded to a two-alarm blaze at a chemical plant in the city, finding one worker suffering from facial burns. He was transported by helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The fire broke out in the old mill-type construction building, where smoke billowed from a mixing room of flammable solutions.
The company uses the facility to manufacture products including adhesives, sealants, and lacquers, officials said. Flammable and combustible liquids end up used at the chemical plant to make those products.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze within an hour.
The injured worker has not yet been identified, and no other injuries were reported.
